Among all breeds you have decided on our appreciated Yorkie.
Welcome
to the wonderful world of the puppy.
At
first glance, it is only a defenseless creature; but when you let
this little being go into your home, you are opening a universe
of new experiences.
From
today on, your puppy will be something very special in your life,
but being precise, you will be much in its life. You are the center
of its universe; you are all it needs to be strong, healthy and
happy, your are the source of the love that it wishes and lets it
grow up, you are the source of its comfort and physical well-being.
By
taking it to your home, you are also making a commitment. As breeders,
we want to make a few suggestions in order to contribute in this
pleasant duty of taking care of your new friend.
You must prepare your house:
When
you are giving the welcome to your puppy, it might happen unexpected
things .
Do
not wait its introduction, it is better to hide your shoes and other
biteable objects in a safe place.
Be
sure that the toxic products used at home are kept out from the
puppy: detergents, disinfectants, insecticides, fertilizers, poisons
for snails, cockroaches, ants and mice, etc.
All of them are potentially lethal. Do not leave near cutting or
sharp objects, such as nails, staples, pins, drawing pins and cans.
Do not let it play with plastic bags that could asphyxiate it. Turn
off, put aside or cover any electric wire. Many decorative plants
may also be dangerous (ivy, caladium, etc.) as well as other garden
plants (the rose-bays). Precaution: have an amount of proper toys
so your puppy can always have something to bite.
The
lodging:
You
may need some basic objects:
- Two
easy cleaning recipients for food and water, with characteristics
which avoid their turn up side down.
- Brush
and comb. Both will help you have your puppy attractive and healthy.
-
Acceptable toys.
-
Synthetic objects to bite, balls of solid gum. All elastic toys
are funny and safe.
-
A bed to sleep on. It will need a comfortable bed to sleep on
and feel sheltered.
-
By nature the puppies will esteem its bed and will not stain it.
It is appropriate to guide it towards the place we want it to
urinate and to defecate, after meals and also after sleep time.
It is crucial to train it from the very first day.
Choosing
a name:
The
best is to select a short name for your new puppy and also easy
to pronounce. It can be related to its breed, its pedigree, its
ancestors, its signs or marks and/or its features. Let it be at
your house for a few days to facilitate seeing its identifiable
qualities. But do not expect too much and do not complicate your
puppy by changing its name.
Nourishment:
You
need qualified food, not only complete but also balanced for the
breed, with ingredients that help it grow up healthy, transforming
it into a strong adult dog.
The use of balanced food is recommended.
Education:
It
is very important that your puppy recognizes its name and that it
moves towards when it is called, as soon as it is well learned.
These things do not happen in one day; the key word is constancy.
It means that the puppy has a schedule to: meals (in order to educate
its digestive system to have its depositions in the expected time),
sleep hours, training and pleasant hours. Lead it always at the
same place to urinate or defecate: before and after sleep hours,
enjoyable time and before going to bed at night.
Remember:
do not carry it to street under any circumstance without having
completed its scheme of vaccination.
Guide
of vaccination:
All
good healthy program for your puppy must be determinated by a veterinarian.
As in human beings it is necessary to make health prevention.
Here
are some suggestions for the first days:
Teach
your family the correct way of holding a puppy. Always put one hand
below its backside and the other below its thorax; do not ever handle
it by the forequarters or forefeet, neither by the neck. Avoid violent
games; let it do its own development, it might need several days
to feel fine, centred as to play at home.
Please,
do not exhaust it in excess. They enjoy brief games which are also
healthful, because it needs to sleep several hours. Place its bed
always in the same point and keep it away from draughts. Let it
know that the chosen place is of its own.
Help
it forget the loneliness. Perhaps it will have melancholy during
one night or two.
Put
a tepid water bottle, never hot water, below its covering so it
can feel the bottle as its mother's body. A tic-tac of a clock wrapped
in a towel seems to be its mother's heart also.
| Breeding
a puppy is much more than nourishing it, spoiling it and leting
it live at your home, it can have reactions that you must be
acquainted with in order to know how to guide it. Patiently,
you will establish the rules to stay together. |
